mirror mirror

today i did a backing removal on a large audubon bird print. once i removed the board and the dry mount tissue, i could see the image on the reverse. i thought the sort of ghost image of it was really neat when compared to the printed side.

our humble abode

the most recent pic of the front of our cute house. you can barely see all the newly planted things. for you, mrs. craig. come by to see the inside when you can, and bring those boys too:)

monthly dinner party

last night we went to a dinner party with friends. food and babies, but this food ain't for no babies. yummy homemade guacamole and hot sauce, ceviche, and barbacoa tacos from fuel city (you must eat these tacos). and of course mexican beer and margaritas. i made 2 pecan pies as promised, and i make mine with caramels instead of karo syrup. after food i was introduced, finally, to guitar hero. i don't quite rock it, but i didn't get booed off the stage too many times either.

duh of the week

this vehicle was parked at whole foods. the picture doesn't do it justice, because it looked way "duh"bmer than this... the wheels were like half the height of the thing. i always figured at least half the shoppers here are making this their store of choice simply because it's trendy and the most expensive, but geez. it gets worse every time i go, and i see more contradictions to what a store like this should stand for. if i really write about why i go there versus my observations of why others do, it's just going to sound snobby and hippie-fied. what i really want to say is that dallas needs a co-op grocery, and fast. duh people.

there and back again

shannon and i just returned from a short biz trip to austin to give a talk at our alma mater... our second talk as CAC ladies, and it went very well. we have such nice support there. these are some pics from the trip. there is a bonus duh included here too, the red truck. also see more pics on shannon's blog post.

me vs. pollen

and once again, my immune system has been defeated. today i have been at home with my sinus infection, because it's really hard to work with a fever and a head this cloudy, and because i need to be near lots of kleenex. i of course have been battling it with various natural remedies, including this tea i made from black pepper, cinnamon, cardamom, and fresh ginger root. it's pretty good. things seem to be improving, though this always goes slowly. the apple cider vinegar helps too...and fits my theory that if it tastes like shit, it very likely works.

and, when i wasn't sleeping this morning, i was watching videos in bed. the two pictures here are 1) from a story off of the "where the wild things are" and other stories video (i really love this folk art-like animation), and 2) the old animated version of "the hobbit". i also watched ratatouille and it made me hungry:)

for jeff :)

must love dogs

i realized i hadn't put any pictures of my babies on here. the top two are mine- annie (annabelle) and tony. both rescues, and her case was especially severe, but they have the greatest energies and are very sweet souls. they are not just dogs, they are our kids. notice they have people names, because i swear they are people. the third is a cute little retriever we are babysitting while his parents are out of town. i had to include him too because he is just so cute.

happy easter

i was glad the sun came out today for the afternoon, because the easter bunny showed up for my cousins. i remember being this excited over egg hunts at the farm when i was little. but some of these eggs were really special...they had dollar bills and coins and candy. there were lots of exclamations like "woah, i hit the jackpot!". the bunny cake is a family tradition. this year it was a yummy lemon cake. cooper the dog was licking his lips thinking about the ham.

spring is here it seems

well, we bought tons of plants at ruibal's over the weekend, then busted our butts in the yard, and today it's flooded. at least i was fashion prepared for my route to and from work.

excavation brings reward

we have 8 of these prints in the lab for an estimate. as i was unframing one yesterday, this is the treasure i found...some kind of cool architectural designs. the language is french.

always the best meal of the day

breakfast! this morning david and i went for some yummy omlettes at the garden cafe, in the junius neighborhood. they grow their own veggies and herbs there, and we had a great seat outside on a glider overlooking the garden. the weather was perfect...sunny and a sweater. check out the totally awesome owl sculpture.

pie party for pi day

last night i went to a 3.14 party at a friend's house with shannon and josh. david missed out on the pie because he was dj'ing at tae tae. i made a sour cream pear pie, and sampled shannon's very yummy french meat pie, a cheese quiche, vegetable pot pie, chocolate pie, frozen yogurt pie, and buttermilk pie (like a lemon chess pie).
