zuber cie wallpaper

zuber wallpapers are manufactured in france, and are handmade using woodblocks. they are really beautiful (and quite expensive), and this is one of the panoramic scenes zuber is known for, though i'm not sure of the date or subject yet. this piece will soon be in our studio for a very full treatment. it is a large panel which is currently lined and mounted to a wooden stretcher. we are super excited about this job, and when it comes in, it will be just about the only thing we have room to work on!

at the museum

the new center for creative connections at the dallas museum of art is really neat. awesome for kids, they even have art camp. i was totally overstimulated, so i can imagine how it would be if i were still a kid. they have exhibits by material (wood, paint, chocolate, soap, stone, etc.), a technology lab, and there is an area where you can make your own crafts. i spent more time in here than i did looking at the newest museum exhibit!

the audible picture show

original audio works for dark cinemas. check it out here.

a unique and entertaining experience giving the mind's eye a welcome stretch. the audible picture show is a growing collection of works by a diverse range of people responding to the challenge of creating short works of audio for 'a dark cinema'. the audible picture show evolves and adapts to each new context of presentation, incorporating wherever possible works by local artists. in this way, the show absorbs a little of the flavour of its journey, building up an intriguing archive that can be re-presented in new environments.

a milestone

our first date was 7 years ago today. we never could seem to get enough of each other after that first date. i finally met my match i suppose:)

taco party

friday night i went to a party in a semi-secret location (because we want this place to stay around, i'll tell you where only when you are going with me). but here's a clue...a mechanics shop turned into a guerrilla taco party. i ate incredibly good tacos (4 of them) and beans, and yummy buttered cooked onion. we listened to cumbia music from a dj. and great people were there. at the end of the night, it turned into a karaoke joint too.

prints and drawings

here are some detail shots of a treatment i've just started at work, which will involve hinge removal, washing, and some stain reduction. these are so lovely (and valuable), so i'm really excited to work on them. the middle is a whistler. i admire him for his talented portraits as well as his wit. the top is a mcentee, and the bottom is hassam.

etsy beer-b-q

this sunday is the first ever beer-b-q and trunk show for etsy dallas. david (aka dj modchap) will be dj'ing, and there will be burgers and beer. come browse the all local, all handmade goods for sale and check out the "make and take" crafts. DH starts playing at 11, and after that there's a band. the whole thing is free, and it's for a great cause.

boots and bbq

last night we stopped by a hoe down at the hickory street annex. we ate really good bbq sandwiches from eddie deen's, and there were lots of people wearing boots and western outfits. there was also pretty good music, but not enough people there to fill up a whole parking lot with dancing, unfortunately. and there was this hayride pictured below...these beautiful babies were soooo much taller than i am. but i got to pet them.

diorama-rama dallas

june 14. mark your calendars for our first ever diorama-rama party. see the press release on the diorama-rama blog here. it will be a potluck bbq with beer and a diorama contest and really rad judges. there will be a silent auction and all proceeds go to help out a friend battling cancer. and my DH will be making an appearance as a DJ. so put on your creative thinking caps to create a world in a box (some of my favorites are shown below), and drop on by.

a new pet

this little guy was in our dining room on the window shade saturday morning. he already had a partially damaged tail. i scooped him up and put him outside on a plant before he got scared to death by the dogs. cute thing.

resort town

check this place out. the great wolf lodge. the best way to describe it is hillbilly kitsch. it made for really good pictures. the indoor waterpark means that shirt and shoes are pretty much NOT required anywhere in the place. we stopped here after dinner with my mom-in-law since it's over in her hood, right across from another monsterous hotel/"resort"/convention spot, the gaylord texan. you should see that place at christmas. who knew all this could be found in grapevine texas.

a needed break from accounting

these are some details of several prints i am beginning to work on. they all need washing (if the inks aren't water soluble), and the dutch farm scene needs some extra care because it is super brittle. the botanical prints have some masking tape removal and stain reduction. they are really light damaged too, but there is nothing to do there. i really like them- they are linocuts by henry evans.
