what are long weekends for...

this holiday weekend has so far involved lots of eating and drinking. yesterday the families went to joe t. garcia's, a place i love but hadn't been to in probably a decade. cash only. the patio is huge, with lush gardens. it's in a great part of fort worth that still looks like a little western town. pics are below.

today we went to louie's for pizza and then rode our bikes to the dubliner for beer. tomorrow is free yoga day, and time for a detox!

a day of washing

today we are taking a very short break from inpainting the wallpaper so that we can concentrate on several smaller jobs we need to get through. we are washing these prints and drawings to remove discoloration and staining, and they will be flattened and finished by the end of the week.

a day at the markets

yesterday i went to the farmers market and to komart, the korean market. it was fascinating, and i got so many good pictures. i could have stayed at komart for hours, especially since they have such yummy food. i also made trips to thrift world, the craft store, the local knitting shop, and the pet store. then i was tired:)

a man named pearl

pearl fryer is amazing. there are nearly 400 topiaries adorning his 3-acre lot, and not the kind you see in front of the dumb mcmansions around here. his are dreamy and wonderful and playful, and his attitude is inspiring. happy friday.

nice spectacles

david recently picked up a comic book that came with these rad 3-d glasses. it's pretty neat... some sections of the comic are drawn more 3-d than others. league of extraordinary gentlemen is worth taking a look at, it's pretty entertaining. i used to make fun of david for being a comic book nerd, until i started reading them too. but it's funny to find him somewhere in the house looking like this. big nerd.

...and going

my recent collection of palettes for inpainting. they are messy but sort of interesting as objects apart from the wallpaper.

woodland wisdom

my very talented friends chet phillips and julie sullivan have collaborated, the creative couple that they are, to make this book of "fables from the forest"... interpretations of aesop's fables. pictured below is "the rooster and the jewel". illustrations and haikus are by chet, and the book is bound by julie using cloth, leather, and wood. please support their endeavors and visit their sites by clicking on their names above. (i'm also super excited about chet's tiki portaits.) the holidays will be here before we know it, and i know i'm shopping here.

see more interpretations of aesop's fables here. aesop was a slave in the 6th century bc, and is said to have lived in greece, though no one knows for sure, and some argue he never existed. see a detailed history here.

it just keeps going and going...

this wallpaper project seems neverending. it's such a tremendous amount of inpainting. every time i work for a while, as soon as i step away from it, it seems like i haven't made much progress. but really we have, it's just slow. we enlisted extra help too, so i hope we'll be totally done with the larger half by the end of this week. here is the tiger before and after. i keep thinking of a "liger" when i look at him.

god's eyes

we got some more supplies today for the upcoming camp crafts workshop. we found some good yarn that changes colors, and i like this one for it's earthy but bright colors. this is a picture of the center of my god's eye, which i made this time using wooden chopsticks. i'd like to make lots of them to hang in my trees, and put on christmas packages, and send to old camp friends.

local weather

today was hot and humid. we've been having some nice clouds that remind me of the simpsons cartoon. very blue skies, with puffy perfect white clouds. the sky looked so neat through the window of our loft building at work, i had to snap this picture. check out the bamboo waving in the mostly nonexistent breeze.

a different dinner

last night our friend shem made these stuffed squid for dinner. they had veal inside, and were cooked with a yummy tomato garlic and herb sauce. it was a nice change to eat something i hadn't had before, and nice to hang out with new friends.

a little romance

yesterday i came home from work and these beauties were in the kitchen waiting for me:)

pastries, my other love

this morning on the way back from checking out a huge potential wallpaper job, we were hungry, so we stopped at this bakery i've been told about. it's called rush patisserie, and it's in deep ellum. we had a tres leche cake in tart form, and a lemon tart. both were good, but being a lemon person i thought the lemon tart was tops. she did it real nice and sour, like a proper lemon anything should be.

more food packaging

here are some neat new additions to the food packaging collection. thanks, and keep them coming! today i found this site of crazy kids' packaging. hover over a label to see the full pic. it's pretty rad. i love love love packaging design.

gallery opening

the talented tonybones is having a show this weekend at the public trust, one of my favorite galleries in town. also, be sure to check out what's going on at the conduit gallery in the realm of video art.

today i learned to make dreamcatchers in preparation for the upcoming paper nerds workshop. these are my first two attempts, and i love them:) i'm bound to get addicted to crafting these, so you may see more pictures, or you may just get a present to hang in your car. so get ready to hippie out! lemme know if you want one, and i'll send one your way someday.

fools for stools

my stool redo is done, and super cute!

night at the museum

thursday nights are free at the dma, and it's open late. below are pictures from the small sculpture garden, where i used to eat lunch frequently when i was a conservation intern here years ago. it's still one of my favorite parts of the museum and the city, with its lovely sound of running water.
