if we're in town, the holidays are usually super crazy for us, so apologies for my absence. here are a few pictures from the past couple of weeks: our christmas tree at the house (though a bit blurry); tex-mex window; my sweet daddy as santa; lovely tinsel tree; the result of a scrabble match; my nephew tearing apart christmas wrap; a storm blowing through the hillcountry; me in my "jumpin' jammerz".

korean food in the cold

earlier this week we went to a christmas party at omi korean grill in carrollton. it was sleeting that night so the travel was awful and scary (because people here think they can go the same speed on the ice, and change lanes, and then they wreck). but the food was amazing, and the people at the party were so warm and lovely (the tei tei and teppo families of gracious and friendly owners/managers/employees). the owner of omi grill, named omi, was very sweet and told us to please come back. the restaurant is relatively new...the decor is warm, the side dishes you get with the meal are interesting and flavorful, the meat was good (and the soups were really good)and the grill doesn't give off any smoke- so you don't come out of there smelling strongly like your food. i would recommend checking it out, and while you are over there go to h-mart as well.

a new gallery round

on saturday night we went to a few galleries in deep ellum before heading over to a rockin' party near fair park. in the full moon. what i'm missing a picture of is the couple of homeless guys in the area who bothered us for money so instead we got them some food. we'd had a bit of wine by that point. anyway, i love the piece with the leather wrapped and stitched branches and the shadows they make on the wall.

light bleaching

the weather finally cooperated enough for us to do some work on our studio roof deck...

art con 4

art conspiracy was a huge success and a lot of fun. well, i think all things with live auctions are a lot of fun. tons of people, cold weather, great music, varied art, good cause. (and red stripe too...hooray beer!) i will definitely do it again. last night my painting went for $120- a lot more than i could have donated in cash to the charity (preservation link), so yay. the first couple pictures below were shot during set up friday night...the rest are the big event yesterday.

hot rod poster

this week some nice fellas brought in this cool '59 drag strip guide poster. we learned about drag racing too. turns out there's a place to check some out not too far from here. the national hot rod association is kinda a big deal. seems far more sensory and gritty to me than driving in circles around a track, but what do i know:)

japanese scrapbook

today i am working on this neat japanese book. it's full of japanese woodblock prints and newspaper clippings, and it seems kind of like a scrapbook the way things are pasted in there. the pages open and close in various accordion style sections, but many of the folds have broken. i'm mostly doing straightforward mending along the damaged folds, and then we'll make an archival box for it.

winter nerds

a few years ago, some friends got me these gnome flannels because we are freaks for gnomes. a few weeks later, a totally different set of friends got david the same flannels, not knowing that i had some too. it was so funny, and now if it's cold outside and my other flannels are in the wash, we occasionally can be caught matching when it's bedtime...lame i know. but also cute.
